2011 SuperBowl Ads

Superbowl Ads that didn't make the cut

Superbowl Ads Test Market
This year several companies ran a new style of testmarketing for superbowl ads. They decided to do an online commercial and let people vote for their choice of the best submissions. This works on several fronts. First it saves the advertiser on the cost of producing commercials because other people are doing all the work on these ads. Secondly they are having a huge audience evaluate the marketing and it doesn't matter if people have seen them all because most of the people who were voting will tune in to see which ads won and get played on Superbowl Sunday.
Some people weren't happy because the final cut of superbowl ads wasn't just about the number of votes or viewers but it was based on a combination of views and votes as well as product placement and product information. So a commercial about a carbonated beverage needs to actually focus on the beverage and not just the cute dancing girls.

Superbowl Ads Submitting an Ad
If you decide to submit a superbowl ad next year you need to make sure you have an eye catching concept or storyline, but you also need to know about product and know what the company expects as far as using and displaying the product in the spot. In the sample spot above if the girls had the kitchen counters lined with the appropriate beverage they may have received a better review by the company officials. Make sure you are thinking not just about a funny or cute or beautiful short film but about actually making a money making superbowl ads for the sponsor.
